Oscar!
Hello! No, I did not forget about my
blog, it just seems like I did. There
has been a lot to write about...so
much so that I just haven't written
about anything.
And just so it is clear to everyone,
we were NOT trying to prove to the
Russians or the Chinese that we have
weapons that can shoot stuff out of
the sky. There really was something
bad! on that satellite. Maybe
somebody saw Alien. That's all I'm
sayin'.
So,Oscar brought me back to the blog, I promised additional predictions and they are in the mix.
Enjoy!
* performances/movies I have seen.
** winner
Best Animated
"Persepolis" (Sony Pictures Classics): Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud
* "Ratatouille" (Walt Disney): Brad Bird
"Surf's Up" (Sony Pictures Releasing): Ash Brannon and Chris Buck
I think the buzz is for Rataatouille, so I going with that. And I enjoyed it as well.
Best Foreign Language
"Beaufort" Israel
"The Counterfeiters" Austria
"Katyn" Poland
"Mongol" Kazakhstan
"12" Russia
Ok, so I don't think any of these have been to Houston. I did see a trailer for "The Counterfeiters, so that is my pick. Plus it is about the Holocaust. That's the clincher. Really.

Supporting Actress
**Cate Blanchett in "I'm Not There"
Ruby Dee in "American Gangster"
*Saoirse Ronan in "Atonement"
*Amy Ryan in "Gone Baby Gone"
*Tilda Swinton in "Michael Clayton"
There has been some chat as of late about Ruby Dee, but since she won the SAG Award,I am going with Cate Blanchett. Seems safe, I think.
Lead Actor
*George Clooney in "Michael Clayton"
**Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood"
Johnny Depp in "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"
Tommy Lee Jones in "In the Valley of Elah"
Viggo Mortensen in "Eastern Promises"
Ohhh, my worst category! Only 2 performances,but, I believe it is more than safe to go with Daniel Day-Lewis.
Lead Actress
Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
**Julie Christie in "Away from Her"
*Marion Cotillard in "La Vie en Rose"
*Laura Linney in "The Savages"
*Ellen Page in "Juno"
One of my best categories. I only missed Cate Blanchett. But one the hardest categories to pick. Julie Christie is marvelous in Away From Her. Marion Cotillard is gut wrenching in La Vie en Rose. The buzz seems to be switching to Marion Cotillard in the past few days, but I am sticking with Julie Christie.

* "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"), Julian Schnabel
* "Juno", Jason Reitman
* "Michael Clayton" Tony Gilroy
