Movies. Football. College Football.

Well, it's that time of year again. Movies and football. Football and movies. Let's start with the Silver Screen. I admit, I haven't been doing as well as I should. I will confess I want to see the new Jodie Foster movie, it certainly looks intense.
The film festivals are underway, and already we have winners. We will start with film..
Venice Film Fest winners...
Golden Lion: Lust, Caution
Note: This is Ang Lee's second Golden Lion at Venice. Brokeback Mountain won two years ago.
Best Director: Brian De Palma, Redacted
Note: This is De Palma's first win as Best Director at Venice; he was nominated last year for The Black Dahlia. He has never been nominated for an Oscar, a WGA or a DGA.
Grand Jury Prize: I'm Not There and La Graine et Le Mulet
Cate Blanchett wins Best Actress for I'm Not There
Brad Pitt wins Best Actor for Jesse James
Osella for Best Screenplay.......It's a Free World

Now for College Football...

Yikes to the Michigan Wolverines. After last weeks upset, well, you had to figure they would win this week. Nooooo...They lose to the Oregon Ducks 39-7. The 32-point setback was Michigan's worst since losing 50-14 at Ohio State in 1968, the season before Schembechler's coaching debut in Ann Arbor. Michigan (0-2) has not opened a season with two straight losses at home for the first time since 1959 and has dropped four straight for the first time in four decades. They are toast.
Fightin' Irish! Are not, well fighting. They lost to (14)Penn State 31-10. Gonna be a long season at South Bend, I'm afraid.
But (7)Texas pulls it out against (19)TCU 34-13. I say pulls it out, Texas started a bit sluggish, but it was all Texas the second half.
LSU(2) on the other hand wins handily against (9)Virginia Tech 48-7.
With just a quick look at the scoreboard, looks like everybody that was supposed to win, won. A couple of nailbiters with the (23)A&M winning against Fresno State 47-45 in 3(count 'em) 3 overtimes. Wow. And (25)Hawaii squeaks by Louisiana Tech 45-44 in OT.
Well, tomorrow is opening Sunday for the Texans. Oddly enough, i am predicting a first time play off appearance for the Texans. You read it here first.
